Adley's Farm

Inspiration

I was sat in the dining room of the farm and staring out of the window across the now empty field. Memories surfaced of the numerous varieties of chickens my uncle once owned, not to mention the geese, ducks, quails and pheasants.

All this poultry glory was sabotaged by M.E. My uncle reluctantly gave up his passion because of his health affecting him and his livestock. It was an injustice that needed to be known.

There are many people in the UK alone who suffer with M.E and have their lives turned upside down and taken out of their control. I know such people, who fight everyday against pain, stigma and themselves.

Adley's Farm is a book of awareness based on my uncle and his faithful hound, Sammy Socks.

There is a happy ending!

I was really impressed with this book. It's a fairly short story, the length is perfect for me as an ME sufferer. The main character is relatable, I recognise his struggles in my own life. The writing style is easy to follow, and I found myself drawn into the story. It's the only time I've ever read such an engrossing phone conversation!
If you know somebody with ME, Fibromyalgia or other debilitating conditions then this book will help you gain an insight into their daily struggles.
This may also help those with these symptoms, validating their experiences. For nearly a decade I had doctors insisting this was just in my head, it's now been 20+ years since I was diagnosed, but those initial doctors words still impact my self esteem and confidence

“A heartfelt story”

This book drew me in from the first chapter. Loved the descriptive style of the author, and I was emotionally engaged with the experiences Arthur went through. I chuckled at times, felt the sadness and despair, and the love too. Definitely recommend giving this a read.

I did not expect to enjoy this book so much as it isn’t my usual genre, but I was pleasantly surprised, the book was well-paced and had a certain rhythm to the story that was emotional but also heart-warming, ME is real, the author really captures that in the story but also brings a touch of happiness to it as well. I highly recommend this book.
